\Uur Gan Correspondent.^ ROSS BOROUGH COUNCIL. Tlie ordinary meeting of the Ross Borough Council took place in the Conn-" eil on 'Tuesday evening. Present—S. P. Evans, Esq. (Alayor), Councillors N. J. Phillips, M. H. Linstrom, A. W. Upjohn, -I. Minehan and H. MeMullan. Before the business of the meeting was proceeded with the Mayor feelingly referred ro the death of the late Thomas iloulahan, who, for a period, nail served ns a councillor; Tie moved a letter of condolence be forwarded tu tlie widow and family, conveying the Council’s deep sympathy in their sad bereavement-. The .motion was carried in silence. Tlio minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The outward correspondence was read and approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. From Elthani Borough Council, asking Council to support resolution asking Government to restrict tlie influx of alien immigration into this Dominion. — Received and resolved to support same. From AV. Duncan and Co., on behalf of a client, asking for lease of part of an endowment reserve.—Resolved to call tenders for same, returnable at next mooting of Council. From Prime Minister, acknowledging receipt of two requests from Council, stating same would receive careful consideration. —Received. From Treasury, notifying remittance of £l. 2s (id, fees and fines, £2 15s Goldfields revenue.—Received. From Alines Department, notifying remittance of £IOO grant for repairs to Donoghue’s road.— Received. From Grey County Council, asking Council to send representative to meeting to be held in Greymouth to discuss proposal of Government, in reference to Greymouth Harbour Board rating area. —Received.
From Hamilton Borough Council, asking Council to endorse resolution asking Government to remove import duty off cement owing to scarcity of cement in New Zealand.—Received. Resolved to support request. From Department of Industries, delegating authority to Council to issue or refuse permits to erect new buildings according to essential or non-essential works, owing to present scarcity of lmilding materials. —Received. Cr Phillips, Chairman of Public Works, reported an extra man had been engaged for a few days to assist in maintenance work, as owing to wet weather all roads required extra attention. —Received and approved.
