YOUNG BOY KILLED
DUNEDIN, July 8,
A boy two years 0 f age, named Henry Rolloflenry who was staying with friends of his parents was run over by a horse and cart at Caversham this afternoon, He was sent to the hospital without delay, hut died before reaching the institution.

The Conference of the New Zealand Labour Party unanimously decided to support the proposals of the Labour members to increase the salaries i f M.’sP. to £SOO a- year, the members to pay income tax and superannuation levies.

Mr W. F. Alexander, for the past ton years editor of the ‘Tiniaru Herald" ha-s been appointed to the editorship of the “Dun,edin 'Evening Star.” Air Alexander will take up his new duties on December Ist next, at which date the. Hon. Mr tyTnrk Cohen, the present editor retires.
MOTOR COLLISION. TIMARTJ, This Day
As the result .of a collision between a motor car, arid motor cycle with a side chair, William Hansen of Pareora was badly cut on the face and leg, Mrs Hansen a fracture of the left leg and broken right ankle, and their infant daughter sustained injuries from which she died later.
LICENSING A IMPLICATION. TAURANGA, July 9
An application for a liquor license at Matamata, in place of a. license dropped at Maketu by non-payment of the amount of the fee, came before the Licensing Committee: The case has arous-' ed considerable public interest on account of the- method, adopted, making it possible to transfer the license more than one mile. Mr Reed K.C. of Auckland, with Mr I. A., Sharp of Tali range, appeared for applicant, and Mr A. Montgomery •and seven other l!egal) gentlemen represent various parties. Mr Reed, in a long opening address, pointed out the great, need for additional accommodation at .Matamata and expressed the advantage of having licensed premises under control of the Licensing Committee, instead of the present method of obtaining liquor in bulk, from outside districts, with the attendant evils. There are some sixteen witnesses to examine und the hearing will, no doubt, be protracted. .. £IOOO FOR MR RINK. STRATFORD, July 9. An enthusiastic gathering of Stratford district supporters entertained Mr J. B. Hin© and presented him with a •kcino for £IOOO. The Prime Minister sent a message expressing the hope that Mr Hine would he again in Parliament. I'his is the second presentation,, the northern end of the electorate having already presented £650.
