LAMBETH CONFERENCE. (Received this day at 9.30 a.m.) LONDON, July 4
There was a great function at Canterbury Cathedral on Saturday. The l’ri. mate, seated in an Augustinus Chair received three hundred Archbishops and Bishops attending the Lambeth Conference.
A great service was held to-day at Westminster Abbey. Representatives of Greek, American and Oversea Dominion Churches were present. The Primate was the celebrant. Dean AVvle in a characteristic, broad church sermon advocated the admission of women to active participation in church services, and strongly iirged the reunion of believers in the essential doctrine of incarnation. He recommended the Conference to alter one word in the Nicone Creed, making it read*.—“Believe in one holy Catholic Apostle Church,” thereby reproducing the pre-reformation formula.
WORLD’S CROP PROSPECTS. (Received this day at 9.20 a.m.) ROME, July 3. Agricultural statistics, viewed by the International Institute of Agriculture, show at Ist April <*tliore were still 105,000,000 quintals of wheat and rye available in exporting countries, namely, 60,000,000 in North America, 32,000,000 in South America ; 13,000,000 in Australia. The requirements of importing countries between April and the respective harvests are 81,000,000 quintals. Consequently a surplus will be available during the coming season. The institute forecasts a generally favourable summer, and indicates a good European harvest. Should the forecast be borne out the requirements of the countries importing on a large scale will be less than lasif. year. Britisli-India lias a larger crop than last year, so probably her exports will commence next season. United States expects a smaller crop than in 1919, but above tiie pre-war average. The Canadian crop prospects are favourable, and the yield will probably be much larger than in 1919. Tt is held the outlook for the coming year does not justify serious anxiety for importers or exporters. Russia and Germany.
