SECRET BALLOT

ON JOCKEY’S DISPUTE,

A secret ballot of jockeys, the result of which will he soon available, is being taken under the Labour Disputes Investigation Act. The ballot is being conducted in the four centres by the Labour Department. Tlie Act provides for a ballot to be taken ill tho event of a dispute not being settled within a prescribed time, lienee tlio present ballot. A conference arranged by the Government between horse-owners and the jockeys with a view to settling tho dispute was held recently but proved abortive. Another interview has been arranged.
