BOSS NEWS.
(Uur Own Correspondent.) ROSS BOROUGH COUNCIL. The ordinary meeting of the Ross Borough Council took place in the Council Chambers on Tuesday evening. Present—S. P. Evans, Esq (Mayor), Crs. M. IT. Linstrom, A. W. Upjohn, W. .Hamilton, M. AlcAlullan and N. J. Phillips. NEW COUNCILLORS. The Returning Officer notified the election of Alessrs J. Alinelian and J. Thomson to fill the two vacancies in the Council.
The two new Councillors made the usual declaration, and took' their seats. The Mayor extended a hearty welcome to the new comers, and said he looked forward to their valued assistance in the administration of borough affairs, Crs. Thomson and Alinelian each acknowledging the welcome extended to them and promised (heir hearty assistance. The minutes of the previous meeting were then read and confirmed. The outward correspondence was read and approved. fNWARD CORRESPONDENCE. Krom Waimairi 'County Council, asking tin- .Council to endorse their rosolulion asking the Government to promote legislation to allow Hospital Boards to borrow money for permanent buildings, etc.—Received. Krom Department tot' Labour, asking for information re housing.—Received and supplied. Krom National Electrical Coy., Christchurch, stating a generator for street lighting purposes had been shipped to the Council. —Received. Krom T. AV. Bruce, Esq., thanking Council for re-appointing him as their representative on the Hokitika High School Board.—Received. Krom E. Whittle, asking attention he given to drain in vicinity of his house. Received; referred to Public Works Committee. Krom Treasury, notifying remittance of Goldfields revenue for month of April, £39 Is.—Received.
From .Mines Department, notifying grunt of £10() for Beach and Dotiogliue road 1 epairs had been passed for payment.—Received. From Secretary Ross Football Club, asking for authority to charge admission to Recreation Ground on occasion of football matches.—Received; request granted. From Reading Room Committee, asking for usual annual grant. —Received and resolved to vote £lO. From Fire Brigade asking for usual annual grant.— Received and resolved to grant £lO. The Finance Committee presented accounts to the amount of £207, which were passed for payment. The Treasurer’s statement showed re. eeipts £2Bl 2s 6d; Dr. Balance £279. Received. ' The following Committees were set up for the balance of the Council’s term:— Public Works, —Messrs Phillips (chair), Minehnn, Thomson, Upjohn. Finance, —Messrs Linstrom, (chair), Hamilton, Moore, McMullan. Reserves, —Messrs Upjohn (chair), Thomson and Linstrom. Cemetery,—Messrs McMullan (chair) Linstrom and Phillips.
Library,—Messrs Linstrom (chair), Phillips, Thomson. To sign documents, —Messrs Linstrom and Philips. The Mayor to be member of all committees ex-officio. TENDERS.
Tenders were opened for 12 months lease of the Recreation ground as follows:—C. H. Black £5 2s, H. McMullan £4 10s. The tender of C. H. Black was accepted. Only one tender was received for the lease of the area adjoining' Recreation Ground, that of A. Simpson at £2 os which was accepted. I Only one. tender was received for the 12 months lease of the Borough dams on Bullock Point, which was' considered satisfactory and declined tho leasing of the said dams being left in the hands of the Public Works Committe with power to act.
It-was resolved to enter a protest at the suggestion to be included in the rating area of the Greymouth Harbour Board. The meeting then terminated.
