MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS.

(By Electric Telegraph—Copyrignl ) A LABOUR VIEW. LONDON, June 22. Mr W. H. Hutchison, in his presidential address at the Labour Conference, sitting at Scarborough, said ‘‘The League of Nations has beeh quietly strangled at its birth by the Victoriou s Powers. They are now continuing military alliances under the guise of their Supreme Council. The best argument for British Labour’s support of Russia is the fact that all ijhe capitalistic governments have shown a determination po overthrow the Soviet. Mr Hutchison demanded “ the unconditional withdrawal of the British troops in Ireland.” He declared "The Empire cannot be held together by force.”

FINANCIAL. LONDON, June 22. P. and 0. shares are: Buyers £4lO, sellers £430; Dalgety’s shares £lO 10s. Nearly all Government securities are lower, mostly by J per cent. The price of the New South Wales issue, at 64 per cent interest is largely the cause, but tlie political outlook on the Continent and the policy in Ireland is a contributing factor. Stock Exchange opinion is that it would have been preferable to offer 6 per cent for the New South Wale s loan at discount, in order to avoid creating a new standard. The “Westminister Gazette” says the question now being asked is whether New South Wales has not offered the new increased rate somewhat too i-apidly.
