ROSS NEWS.
(Oqr Own Correspondent.) FOOTBALL,
The match Kumara v. Ross was played on the Recreation ground on Saturday and resulted in a win for the local team by 3 [joints to nil. The game was a very even one throughout, the two teams being very evenly matched. The try, which was scored by Ingli s was secured early in the first half and . although both sides fought hard right up to the time the whistle blew no further points were added. For Kumara, Rothwell, (full-back), played a splendid game, while Johnston, W. Steele, and Ayden were prominent. For Ross, Cherrie, Scott and Croft were perhaps the most prominent on their side. Mr F. Mitchell acted a s referee and as usual gave every satisfaction.
On Friday evening a painful accident happened to Airs Sharkey, a very old resident of Ross. It appears she was standing on a chair when.it collapsed, Mrs Sharkey falling heavily to the floor fracturing her thigh. Dr Bathgate was called from Hokitika and ordered the patient to the Westland Hospital, where she w'as conveyed on Saturday. The accident is all the more regretful as Airs Sharkey is about 86 years of age. We hope the old lady will soon make a complete recovery. The Hon J. Grimmond leaves to-day en route for "Wellington to attend his Parliamentary duties, and will probably ho absent some few months. Airs Grim, inond accompanies her husband.
