Henry Thomas Hurrell, who appeared for sentence on charges of 1 incest and bigamy, was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment for incest, and two years for bigamy, the terms to he concurrent. Ethel .Maud Eden, on a charge .of making a false statement to tlie Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages was ordered to come up for sentence when called upon. SALE OF PEDIGREE JERSEYS. NEW PLYMOUTH, June 11. There was a large attendance from all parts of the North Island at the sale of pedigree Jerseys, held by Mr Newton' King, on account of Mr F. W. Cornwall, Bell Block, this afternoon, some record prices being realised. Thirty-three cows brought 3401 guineas. The bestprices were:—Rosalind’s Girl (Murray Bros.) Opotiki, 367 guineas; Belle Malone (Bert. Luxton) Ornata, 275 guineas; Kotiro (Murray Bros., Opotiki 201 guineas; Illusion (D. Malone, Riverlea) 175 guineas; bull, Holly Bank Squire, (Murray Bros.) 220 guineas. At a.clearing sale, on behalf of Mr E. W. Reube, Westown, on Wednesday, good prices were obtained for cons, as"follows:— Waiwctu Trump Lily (A. Sharpe, Matapu) 200 guineas; Avoca’s Lady (J; Fulton, Whnngarata, Auckland) 200 guineas; Omato Queen (W. Oxenham, Uruti) 161 guineas.

The Orphans’ Club entertained cue Governor-General I'aSt evening. Colonel Esson (Chief Orphan) said they regretted that he was shortly leaving to return to England. He placed the chairman’s chain of office, on Lord Liverpool’s shoulders. Lord Liverpool said, 'notwithstanding, he wotlld be Governor-General three a,nd a-half months longer he was being allowed to take a little holiday before retiring : He hoped he would one day be able to return to New Zealand and they could depend if that were the case, he would claim hospitality at the hands cf the Orphans’ Club.

General Birdwood left for Invercargill this morning. He was accorded a civic reception on Saturday afternoon and laid the foundation of the R.S.A. Memorial Club. He was welcomed by tho Overseas Club and yesterday visited soldiers in hospital. GENERAL BOOTH. DUNEDIN, This Day. General Booth was accorded a civic reception on arrival at Dunedin on Saturday afternoon. He* addressed a. crowded meeting at His Majesty’s Theatre in the afternoon and another crowded meeting of Salvationists at hcadquar_ tors in the evening. General Booth re., turns to Wellington to-morrow. CLOTHING WORKERS AWARD. DUNEDIN, This Day. An order of the Arbitration Court amending the New Zealand factory clothing trade award has been filed. Tailoresses have been granted a bonus of 5s per week, cutters, pressers and male machinists awarded a bonus of 2]d per hour." Male apprentices receive > bonus in addition of 3s per week.
