The Federal Solicitor-General has opened an official inquiry into the case of Father Jerger, whom the Hughes Government proposed to deport. The case of Dr Hirschfield is also being enquired into. MELBOURNE, June 10. The Federated Enginedrivers’ and Firemen’s Association, tmd Electric iLight and Gas Works Employees’ Union sent an ultimatum to the employers demanding increased wages. They state that if these are not granted, they will cease work at mid-night on Saturday. If this intention is carried into effect, it is estimated that 40,000 .people will he idle in the first week, as ,tho factory engine drivers belong to the Association.
