KIWIS V. ROSS. The above match took place at Ross on Saturday last and resulfod in a win for Kiwis by 15 points to nil. The game during the first half was rather last and open, and at a couple of times looked dangerous for the visiting team, who were saved by the visiting full-back putting in some good safe kick's. ‘There was no score when half time was called. After half time, tlie Kiwis had tlie best of it, and from .1 passing rush B. Jones passed a couple of the local backs and scored a nice try which was' unconverted. Soon after play had got gong again, the visiting forwards from a loose rush resulted in Devaney scoring near tlie posts, an easy kick going wide. The local team then rushed and for a while looked dangerous, but a good luck by Glass sent the play into tlieir territory, and after a succession of scrummages a passing rush ensued when the hall went out to B. Jones, who scored his second try which was also unconverted. The local team was now showing that, they lacked the necessary form and from a. line out the visiting forwards took the ball at tlieir feet and in a loose rush W. Kearns got over the lipe, the kick going wide. Play thon went to the centre of the field and a good kick by Devaney went into tlie Ross team’s territory, where from a line out, Kortegnst obtained the ball and scored. This try also being unconverted. Soon after time was called, the scores being Kiwis 15, Ross nil. * ; Tlie Ross team appears to be a very hefty lot, but lacking form, and combination, but after a few matches should show up prominently in the competition. The forwards were particularly heavy compared with the visitng pack, should put in some useful work later on Mr F. Mitchell had charge of the game.
EXCELSIORS Y. KOKATAHI, The above match took "place at Kokatalii oil Saturday afternoon and resulted in a win for Excelsiors by 14 points to nil. Tries were scored by Breeze, (unconverted) ; Davidson, (unconverted) ; McKay,' (converted by L. Ross), and McDonald (unconverted). The game was very ragged and a poor display of football, lots of opportunities for some good open play being missed by too much speculating. For the visiting team Madgwick and Breeze played well, while McKay also showed to advantage. For Kokatahi M. Wallace was the mainstay of the Kokatahi backs, playing well up to bis usual standard. O’Brien, the home team’s full back, also showed out prominently, putting in some good line kicking. Mr Ciitbosli bad control of the game and gave satisfaction to both sides.
At Christchurch on Saturday the League game’ Canterbury"* v. West Coast, resulted in a win for Canterbury by 24 to 3. At Greymounh on Saturday, Stars defeated Marists by 29 to 3. At the annual meeting of the New Zealand Rugby ,Union, held on Friday night, the election of officers resulted as follows: , i Patron, His Excelency the Governor General; President: J. McLeod (Taranaki); Vice Presidents: The'Presidents of the Affiliated Unions; Hon. Treasurer, Captain T. IT. .Tones; Management Committee, S. S. Dean, (Auckland); G. Howe (Canterbury), R. T. Bailey (Hawke’s Bay); H. Patton, (Soutliland); J. T. M. Piki, (Canterbury), A. C. Kitto (Southland), aiid G. W. Slade (Taranaki): Appeal Council: F. Colin, sliaw, W. C. Garrard and G. H. Moson re-elected); Auditor 0. Kember (reelected) ; Representative on the English Rugby Union, C. Wray, (rejected) . The Motueka and Golden Bay subUnions applied for permission to register as a separate Rugby Union to be called the Bay Union. The Nelson Union wrote supporting the application, which was granted. A proviso was attached that the name of the new union would have to be approv ed by the Now Zealand Rugby Union’s Management Committee. Permission was given for the affiliation of the Whangarei Rugby Union. An application for the affiliation of tiio Main Trunk Union, with its headquarters at Tailiape, was referred hack for consideration by the various suhUnions concerned. Mr Wylie moved: “That the Management Committee be direetd to inquire as to whether any Union is playing under rules which have not been approved by this Union.” Mr Wylie said be was not animated by any feeling of personal animosity; but they all knew that certain, things were going on, and it was for the Management Committee to take action if the rules were being infringed. Mr N. R- Jones, Auckland, denied that the Auckland Union was playing under any unauthorised rules. It was decided to leave venue for the North v. South Island match in the hands of the Management Committee.
