PRINCE’S APPEAL. (Received this day at 8 a.m.) MELBOURNE, May 29. The Prince attended 1 special slow at the agricultural grounds on Saturday at which fifty thousand were present. En route to the Lord Mayor's ball he called on a representative gathering of journalists at tlie Grand Hotel where lie said lie was issuing an appeal to the people not to crowd him as they were doing and they would thus make the tour much happier. HALS. Renown was thrown open to the public and visited by thousands. The crush was so great that many women fainted and tents of the naval guard on the beach were converted into first aid depots. >
CROWDED DEMONSTRATIONS (Received this day at 11.30 a.m.) MELBOURNE, May 31.
All the Prince’s public movements are attended by unprecedented demonstrations of loyalty. The crowds in the streets is sometimes so dense it is diffi-
cult for his ear to make progress. His appeal against crowding followed an incident in which a. young lady throwing
a bunch of violets into bis car, approached too near and was knocked down, escaping with a shaking only.
The' Prince is so crowded with engagements that he barely lias 'time to to snatch a little exercise. Yesterday he attended’ service in the Cathedral. Handshaking is proving a serious ordeal. The Prince mostly uses his left bond but occasionally alternates with his right. Mr Hughes, addressing a journalists meeting which was held at the invitation of th<, Federal Government to honour British and Australian pressmen accompanying the Prince spoke of the influence the local demonstrations would have in impressing on ilia world the Empire's unity. Mr Hughes added that those who chronicle the Prince of Wales doings are performing a great work for the Empire and civilisation.
