A fire at the town of Wee-Wan. a north-west of New South Wales, destroyed Spencer and Collett’s, general store and six other shops. The damage is estimated at £IOO,OOO. DOUBLE PAY REQUEST. SYDNEY, May 30. With reference to tlie railwaymen s demand for double pay dturing the Prince.’s visit the Commissioners have declined to promise payment beforehand, but after the .visit they arc prepared to make adequate additional payment for any ascertained extra duties ncurred. A deputation of railwaymen interviewed Hon. Mr Dooley, who promised that if the Commissioners refused to pay he would have the amount placed on the Estimates to cover payment. Tn regard to the railway policy generally, he° added, the Government had submitted their desires to the Commissioners. Whether the policy of the Commissioners was going to lie in keeping with the policy of'the Govern ment he would he unable to say, but he c ouTd give the assurance thn,t the policy .of the Labour Party as declared at the Elections was going to be carried out.
