I beg to' submit the following -eport on work done during the past month. On April 2oth we experienced a very heavy flood, which carried away a portion of- the Kanieri River Bridge along with 50 feet of the Pipe Line, supplying the town with water. Owing to the River cutting close into the Road wo had considerable difficulty in making a connection with the Lake end of the Pipe Line. To carry the pipe line across the gap we had to construct of' bridge of 2} galvanised iron wipes screwed' together. After connecting up both ends of the line it was discovered that there was another break away on Slip Hill. Tin's break was. soon unpaired when the water was again turned on after being off for 3} days, this being the lo.nget period the town has been without water since the supply has 1 been on to the town. During the rest of the month we have been busily engaged in decorating the town to celebrate the occasion o f the visit of the Prince of Wales to Hokitika, The usual maintenance works were also attended to during the month. —Received and adopted. It was resolved to convey to the Overseer anrl staff appreciation of the excellent work effected. It was also resolved to pass a special contribution to those employ.
