RACEHORSES “BLACK.”
HELD UP AT LYTTELTON. (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Ma y 17. Tho latest development in connection with the jockeys’ dispute took place at Lyttelton to-day, when the crew of the ferry steamer Maori notified the Union Company that they would not sail if racehorses were shipped. This action was taken apart from the Sea men’s Union. It seems that tho men held an informal conference during the week-end, and to-day two of their number waited on the local Secret.u y of tho Seamen’s Union and asked him to inform ■-the Union Company that' the seamen and firemen would not sail with | any race horses aboard until the Jockeys’ Union is recognised. This also np j plies to all coastal vessels running be- • tween the two Islands. | The shipowners were informed ac- , cordingly. I The waterside workers also intimated that they would refuse to load horses. , In the'face of the action taken by the seamen, six horses in charge of trainers, Lowe, Wilson and Cnrmone arrived at Lyttelton, .but were sent back to Riccarton. , Tli© Union Company refused to take tho responsibility of loading them.
