About 9.40 the house (which was some considerable distance back from Elmer Lane and the locality formerly known as the ‘•'Government Stables”) was noticed by some people to lie ablaze, and Mr Sullivan at once sounded an alarm on the bell at' the State School. By the time, however, that the Central Eireboll had warned the Eire the conflagration had gained the mastery. On arrival, the Brigade found it difficult to get to work, the hose having to bo brought over several fences. When water was available, it was only possible to save an outhouse, and extinguish the burning debris of the residence. When ito fire started, the only occupant of the hous© was Mr Brown senr., who first became aware of the fire by hearing some articles falling in a room adjoining the one he occupied. On investigating, he discovered the fire had a good hold, and had to hasten to make In's escape. Nothing was Saved of the furniture so that the fire is responsible for a total loss, as there wats no insurance.
