Well done Hokitika and well done Westland! The praise for all the success attending the Royal Visit - must be distributed all over the community, for every quarter which sent its quota to honour the Pi'inco of Wales played : ts part in adding to the aggregate sum which produced the crowded ruccess. “It is not in mortals to command success,” but- they may deserve it, and Westland hy its true as steel loyalty has certainly deserved it. The ‘i fame has spread abroad, as indicated by the complimentary cable message from Sydney. To all those who contributed to the success attending the functions ( o mark the advent- of Prince Edward, the greatest praise is due. Few know tha amount of work which fell -on . the

ladies Mid gentlemen in connection with the several committees responsible for the carrying through a celebration of such magnitude, A day or a week, of course, did not suffice to win the reward of duty well done. Several weeks’ work , were assigned' to the occasion, and the great amount of the work done was performed readily and most enthusiastically by bands of willing workers. An event of such magnitude deserved to he well celebrated, and tlio success which marked it wafi proof of the wonderful resources of the town and district. For a small town the achievement ranks as one of the greatest in the Dominion, and to- win thh renown is all to the credit of the scores of willing workers, who neither . pared themselves nor flagged in the perform. I ance of the duties which they took .'n hand. Again, well done the district as | a whole.

1 In the midst of the festivities on Wednesday the County Council, at a. -pecial 1 meeting, laid the foundation ’or its I effort to create an Electric Power Hoard for Westland. It is possible, that with * folk so much interested in events of 1 the past forty-eight hours the important district- question raised at the Council meeting might be overlooked. The proposal now is to set nlbout establishing a Power Board for the district. ! That suggested is to extend from the I Tcromakau river to the Mikonui iver, including Ross Borough, but excluding Hokitika Borough and Kumara Borough where, apparently, the situation is nob ripe for the'establishment of a Board, or a branch—of which more anon later, perhaps. The first steps will be to get a petition to the Government signed by a sufficient number of ratepayers to ensure, the creating of a provisional body which have power under the Power Boards Act to take initial steps to formulate a scheme for the introduction of electric power to the district for sale. In this connection iJ is .believed a very large quantity of power could be olaccd at once for a single important industry. During the past two or three nights the ■ public perambulating the streets of the town have had the opportunity of judging for themselves one phase of the use to which electric- light might be used, Ibut it is in respect to the sale of electric power that the success of =• the scheme will be demonstrated. On this 7 point full information should be gleaned so that when appealing to the electors later the fullest particulars could be a placed before them.
