WOMEN MAKE PROTEST, AUUiCLAND, May 10. A meeting of women convened by the (,'i.vio League and Civic Circle of the Women’s Club was hold to-night, to consider the cost of living. The meeting carried declarations of protest against the continued high cost of the necessaries of life, particularly drapery and clothing generally, and ip furtherance of the protest undertook not to buy the following articles I'ftr a period of six mouths:—Ci'v.pv de chine and georgette underclothing irrespective of price, gloves irrespective of price, stocklugs costing more than 8s fid per pair, costumes costing more than 10 guineas, hats £2 10s, blouses £2, and boots and shoes £2 ss. Further resolutions urged that two women should be appointed to the Board of Trade forthwith, that the names of those found guilty hv tile Board of Trade and the anti-profiteer-ing tribunal be. published and the offondiai'H punished, also that the Government take stops to secure for the public supplies of woollen goods at reasonable prices, thereby reducing the enormous difference between the price paid to farmers for wool and tho price of manu factored goods.

An undertaking not to purchase goods was signed by about sixty women in a few minutes.
