CHRISTCHURCH, This Day

Messrs Matson and Co. report as follows regarding their stock sale yesterday : Fat cattle.—There was a medium entry and prices were firmer for good stuff. Cows and unfinished cattle were equal to last week. Butchers were operating strongly on all go<Rl quality, but no freezing buyers were bidding. Extra steers sold to £2B ss; prime £lB 10s to £23; cows and heifers £ll to £l3 16s and up to £l6 10s for extra. Store cattle.—A small yarding, and no potters were buying. Dry cows for grazing, £4 10s to £7 ss. One line of 18-months old Hereford steers extra good, made £7 12s 6d. The demand privately was very poor and sales were hard to make.

Store sheep.—A smaller yarding than last week, comprising mostly Southern and Chatham Island sheep, which sold readily at last week’s rates. Best local wethers sold up to 335, others 25s to 28s; best ewes from 28s to 325; lapibs from 16s 6d to 20s; others from 11s. Fat sheep,—A smaller yarding, including some good lots, breezing buyers were practically doing nothing. The market for best sorts was firm, but medium and inferior sorts were easier. Butchers were operating keenly on best sorts. Best wethers to 55s 6d; prime 41s to 38s; good 34s 6d to 39s 6d; others 27s to 335; ewes of the same parity. Lambs were easier.
