DIVORCE (LAWS. (Received this day at 9.3 D a.m,) LONDON, May 5. The House of Lords debated Lord Luck master’s Divorce Bill. The Primate moved a new clause forbidding clergy to remarry “ any divorced poison in any. Anglican Church, while the former husband or wife was living. Lord Buckmaster. proposed a compro--mise restricting prohibition to defendants in a divorce snip Donls Selbourne and Birkenhead in supporting Lord Buckmaster, declared the Primates’ clause would raise the whole qu/esffcitm of the Established Church. Lord Birkcnlipad added that if thp Church attempted to discipline clergy who disagreed with their leaders on this subject, many opponents of disestablishment might he (..(impelled to reconsider their attitude. The Archbishop of York said that though it might mean a living curtain on a great drama, namely, church versus State. Lord Buckmaster’s compromise could not be accepted. Tlio Primate’s clous© was rejected by 51 to 50.
