MUTTON PRICES

The Food Controller lias revoked the order fixing the retail price of imported mutton. Butchers predict a rapid fall in prices and increased consumption.
“BELGIAN CONGO STRIKE. (Received Tliis Day at 8 a.m.) CAPETOWN, April 23. Advices from Belgian Congo State an economic crisis lias arisen through the decline of the franc and anti-profiteer-ing legislation which is driving British merchants from the territory. Ihe entire official'staff of Katanga province have struck, including High Couit judges, customs, telegraph, and railway officials. Their demands include increased p’ay and the right of Association. The food position is becoming critioal. ! ’
KAPP RELEASED
(Received This Day at 8 a.m.) STOCKHOLM, April 23.
Government has directed that Kapp be no longer kept under arrest. He will be permitted to remain in the country subject to his abstaining fiom political propaganda and his movements being controlled by the police.
STRIKE BALLOT. (Received This Day at 8 a.m.) LONDON ,April 24
The cotton spinners’ ballot favoured a strike by 20,744 to 1,623, and cardroom workers 60,856 to 3,241.
REPLACING SCAPA FLOW SINKINGS.
(Received Tins Day at 8 a.m.) LONDON, Apirl 24. Two modern German battleships, the Posen and Oldenburg have arrived at the Firth of Forth, replacing the ships sunk at Scnpa Flow.

M. in an interview, said the London newspaper was wholly responsible for the absurd suggestion regarding communication with Mars which he did not consider worth contradicting.
THE CANCELLED APPOIN TMENT. (Received This Day at 8 a.m.) LONDON, April 24. Mr Hall, the New South Wales High Commissioner, in an interview with the
Australian press, said:—l have.been ad vised by cable, that Government have decided to cancel the five years contract entered into by it and myself. Invariably there arc differences of opinion regarding who should receive the various appointments, but in Australia until now, contracts once made, were held sacred. 1 am the first victim ot the new Ministry’s malignity, and 1 hope for the country’s sake that T wilj he the last.”
NEW YORK, April 24. Mr Hall sails in the Adriatic for London on 24th April.
