ANZAC DAY COMMEMORATION.

Next Sunday will be the fifth anniversary of the Anzae Landing at Gallipoli. The Government as veil as tlio Returned Soldiers’ Association has requested a special observance of the day, and at a meeting on Saturday night the local form of commemoration was agreed upon. At 10.30, memorial services will be held in all the churches. There will be a military parade in' connection therewith, the Defence forces and the returned soldiers falling-in at the Drill Shed at 10 a.m. Headed by the band, the parade will march through the streets, when the men will break off at their respective churches. A large attendance of returned men is expected, and no doubt the military generally including the band, will parade in force. After the church services, the parade will reassemble again in Stafford Street, adjacent to the Diggers’ Memorial. At noon the military procession and public will move to Gass Square. A contingent of returned soldiers will form a firing party and will march with arms reversed. The procession will move into Cass Square by the centralgate from Stafford Street, and when approaching the site for the Westland War Memorial the band will play the funeral march, “Garland of Flowers. At the memorial site, the firing party will form on each side of the foundation stone to be laid. The band will lie stationed nearby, and seating accommodation will be provided for iola~ fives of soldiers. A platform will be erected, and the Mayor will preside over this public observance of the day. One address only will be delivered. The form of the short service will he as follows:—Hymn, “The Old Hundred”; bible reading (an appropriate Psalm); prayer; laying of foundation stone ; National Antliem; selection by band as a token to the fallen, “Flowers of the Forest”; public address; closing hymn, “0, God Our Help” ; requiem volley and sounding of the “Last Post” by a trumpeter. During the sounding of the “Last Post” the foundation stone will be covered hv a Union Jack, and wreaths in memory of the. fallen will bo deposited thereon. Those contributing wreaths should notify ScrgtMajor Solomon who will arrange for children to be in attendance to deposit the flowers. The public are invited to attend m force and join heartily in the proceedings, programmes for which will be distributed.
