PATRIOTIC FUNDS.

Mr George Davies, Officer in charge of War Funds, visited Hokitika during the week end and interviewed the President and Committee of the Lady Liverpol Fund who were desirous of making the best use of a substantial balance ' held after the war activities of the Society ceased. It was unanimously decided by the ladies present to hand over the moneys to Mr Evans the representative of the National War Funds Council in Hokitika to be administered for the relief and assistance of soldiers and their dependents at the discretion of tho local advisory Board in whom the administration of direct relief and assistance to soldiers in the Westland district is solely vested. By direction of the Hon. Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr Davies expressed appreciation and thanks to the ladies of Hokitika who had worked so wholeheartedly to provide cheer and comfort for tho hoys in the trenches who were regularly and comfortably reminded of their West Coast homes. Mrs Butler, the President of the Society and Miss Perry the Secretary responded and the general concensus of opinion was that the local advisory board of the National War Funds Council would be enabled to administer tlie fund to the host advantage and to tlie complete satisfaction of the subscribers.
