AMUSEMENTS.

- POLLARDS PICTURES.

A MARVELLOUS picture,

EXPLOITS OF U 35,

WJiat can ho described as one of the most interesting and novel picture programmes ever placed before a Hokitika audience will be screened by Pollards on next Monday evening in the Princess Theatre. A marvellous film taken by the Germans, and seized by the British—“ The Exploits of U3s” .shoving the ravages of the German submarine, raider, will depict the awful war made on merchant shipping; and the First National super-feature, “Virtuous Wives”, will feature Anita Stewart as the wife.

The Exploits of U 35 depicts the German raider pursuing shelling and sinking huge ocean cargo steamers and sailers. The crews of the victims are seen taking to the boats and when the final shelling of the doomed vessels by the submarine ensues the doomed vessels are within stone throw. The German gun crews are seen within a few feet of the camera, operating the quick Orel's and lighting the allied vessels, many of which are despatched in the picture. The genuineness of the picture is guaranteed, it being seized by the British. Government in Germanv.

The star picture drama, “Virtuous Wives” is an event in the history of the photo drama, notable for its stor.v alone. It was the story selected to celebrate Anita Stewart’s initial performance and the First National Banner. The novel by Owen Johnson, ran into its two million edition. It is a scathing satire on New York society and its marriages. Johnson describes their marriages as a legalised excuse fur circulating in couples. The east is a notable one that includes six star artists, and the production is on, a scale of nmgnificcsce that has rarely (if ever) been equalled oil the screen.
