SOUTH WESTLAND BRIDGES
PROGRESS BEING MADE,
The Resident Engineer of Greymouth of the Public Works Department Ims advised the Westland County Council of the progress being made in respect to the principal bridges required on the main south road. As the information is of general importance it is made available for the public. Mr J. D. Gillies writes:—“Replying to yours of 3rd inst .enquiring into the position in regard to bridging the various streams on the Main South Road.
I.—Little. Wa italic. Piles and a small portion of the hardwood, and also the steel tension rods arc in stock here at Greymouth. The contract plans are ready for advertising as soon as wo receive definite advice that the remainder of the hardwood is on the road.
2.—Little Wanganui. Piles and tension roads are in stock here. The native timber is being cut at Minchan’s Mill. The contract will be advertised as soon as a. fair amount of the latter timber is ready.
3. Waitangi, Atupau, and Waikukupa. Plans of these are completed and are being forwarded to Head Office for approval. 4. Dry Creek, Parlies Creek, McDonald’s Creek. Thought there is no appropriation for these, plans have been prepared in anticipation next year’s estimates. 5. Bridge. Preliminary plan for the bridge are in preparation. The Bridges eenumerated in (3) and (4) will he built entirely of Native Timber.
