Reports from St. Louis, Kansas City, Chicago, Columbus, Cleveland, Detroit, San Francisco, and San Diego indicate that tho railway men’s strike is crippling the railwayman’s services through out the whole country. The passenger trains to New York are leaving hours late. The tramway system in the cities near New York are being affected. Tho freight movements are uncertain in many parts of the country. The food supply of many is threatened. The actual strikers only number about fifty thousand, but venty-five thousand other railroad wprk ers are also idle. The strikers are mostly switchmen and firemen. : REPUBLIC SET UP. NEW YORK, April 11 Telegrams from Nogales, in New Mexico, report that the State of Sonora has seceded from the Mexican Federal Government, and has created an independent Republic. Sonora’s action arose out of tho Carranza Government’s encroachment upon the State’s right, which had been guaranteed under the Republican Constitution.

MEXICAN AFFAIRS. MEXICO CITY, April 11. The State Legislature at Sonora declared its independence. Upon of the news, Carranza had, telegraphed to the Governor of Sonora asking if the insurrection were true and notifying the Governor that the central Government views events with suspicion. The Sonora people charge Carranza with plotting to establish a military dictatorship.
