PRICE OF PAPER. OTTAWA, April 6. Th© Supreme Court has decided that the Board of Commerce has no power to control the price or supply of newsprint paper, which is now- selling in Canada at eighty dollars per ton, while the export price is one hundred and twenty dollars per ton. Far-reaching results of the news-

print paper question are contained in a decision of the Supreme Court of Canada, upholding the refusal of Price Brothers’ mill .to obey the Government's orders. The judgment is interpreted to mean an end of Government control. The Judges decided that news-print iB not a necessity to life, which the Board of Commerce claimed it was. The decision is considered-as favouring the Australasian papers. The supply of newsprint paper for Australia will be safe. Probably all the paper companies will now defy the Commerce Board’s orders as regards the , shipping of paper abroad. It is their declared policy to take care of the Australasian market as much as possible. However, it is possible the Government may later on retaliate by placing an export duty on paper wlich would adversely affect Australasia.
