SCOW MISSING. WHAKATANE, This Day. Fears are entertained that the auxiliary scow Kahn was lost at sea during a storm about ten days ago. She left Opitikl on March 24th and a scow like her was seen by the Tasman to leeward of Alderman Islanl two nights later at the height of the storm heading north seawards, showing no distress. Heavy weather and approaching darkness would make it difficult to cuter any port. She carries a crew of four, namely J. Leaf burg (captain), G. Samson (burner and engineer), L. Taylor (deck hand), and a boy as cook. The three men are married and belong to Auckland. Captain Eoff, commanding the Whakatanc harbour scow Vesper, who formerly commanded the Kahu, says sho was a fairly good sea boat.
