WESTLAND WAR MEMORIAL
PRELIMINARY PREPARATIONS
The Committee which lias the Memorial in hand, lias lost no time in completing the preliminary preparations. To-day circulars are being posted to all people on the electoral roll within the County of Westland. The circulars are an appeal for funds. The aim and object of the movement are set out, and practical co-operation is invited. To-morrow the Boy Scouts will bo delivering the circulars to every household in Hokitika, and next week the circulars will be distributed in Kumara and Ross. It is hoped by Wednesday next to have the appeal in every house hold in Westland and tho three interior Boroughs. The appeal specifies April 15th to April 25th as the period in which the collecting of the £1,500 is to be undertaken. During next week the collecting lists will be in tho hands of the collectors who will be glad to be notified of subscriptions thereafter. Persons or localities not served by the appeal may get into touch with the nearest collector, or remit direct to Mr A. A. An- ; drewes, lion .Treasurer, Town Hall Hokitika.
The present movement is an opportunity to all to pay a. tribute of respect to the memory of the fallen. It is mete and proper that those who made the supreme sacrifice should be reniem- - bored now and hereafter. Their names will ho engraved on the Stono of Remembrance which will stand within the Cenotaph, and the recollection of their services to this "country and for humanity generally, should as the circular states, he “a message and an inspiration.” ' •
It is intended to inscribe the names of alt Weistland men and nurses who fell in the Great War. The Committee is particularly anxious to -have the list complete, and to ensure Hint friends are invited to' send in' the naines with full initials to Mr D. J. Evans; lion. Secretary ,County Office, Hokitika. A provisional list of tho available names will he published at the foundation ceremony, but even this should he as complete as possible, and it is hoped friends will oblige by notifying the County Office as to names which should bo inscribed. All men who - enlisted from West-land and fell will he enrolled, as well as Weistland horn nien who may have enlisted in other districts or countries, yet made the supreme sacrifice for the common cause. The names of Westland nurses will he enrolled likewise, and all assistance in making the list and record fully complete will he Appreciated by the. authorities promoting Westland’s Great War Memorial. ~ ______
