MAN SHOOTS HIMSELF. MASTERTON, March 20
A man named Tracey Pipe (single), aged about 44 years, was admitted to hospital on Saturday night suffering from a bullet wound in the head, which was self inflicted. An attempt was made to extract the bullet, but it proved unsuccessful. This afternoon the man was reported to be in a low condition. CREEP IN MINE. AUCKLAND, March 20 With reference to the creep in the extended mine at Huntly the Hnupiri Coal Company state that the miners have been removed from the section in which the fall had occurred, owing to a subsidence in an unworked section adjoining. It is not serious and wil] make no difference in the output.
ROUGH TRIP. AUCKLAND, March 21
The Atria had a stormy trip from Suva. She left there at three last Sunday evening, and ran down the edge of a hurrican that previously swept Fiji. Heavy seas swept the deck for three days. Only minor injuries to deck fittings resulted.
STOP WORK MEETING
WAIHI, March 20
A stop-work meeting of the miners will be held on Monday to consider a letter from the mining companies relative to a further conference.
There is no further development in connection with the engineers’ strike. Work commences as ausual at the mines without the assistance of the engineers and fitters.
