the collecting CAMPAIGN
Westland will have the opportunity from April 15th to April 25th to put up a record greatly to its credit. Within those ten days is to be raised the sum of LJOQO for tjie Westland War Memorial to the Fallen. The organising committee has set apart iff*' ten days for a. collecting campaign, and within that period looking tp what the district has done in the past, j.Jm sum required should be forthcoming. By raising the aniQiipt the district will show how much its heart is in the movement-, apd it will establish !! record for other places to follow and do likewise. Already the district is leading in the matter of an entirely public memorial to the fallen, for New Zealand has rather .hung ba u k in this respect. Other centres are now moving in what is an obvious duty and if the local scheme to raise the funds within ten days of next month is carried into effect, the district will certainly be the first to have the money available for the pipnional in mind. . , , ( The memorial decided upon is to lie a cenotaph, the exact design still to be selected. It will be rais.cd jp Mss Square on a suitable location, and wif he a reminder for all time of the personal sacrifice which the Great Mar called for. The subscriptions are being called for voluntarily, and to this end a circular will bp delivered shortly to every household bringing the scheme under notice, and h.ter within call and seek the financial help forthcoming.
