WESTLAND WAR MEMORIAL

CAMPAIGN FOR FUNDS.

From April 15th t 0 April 2oth (Anznc* Day), there will ho a special campafeji to raise £1,500 for the Westland War Memorial. This amount is to be raised only by voluntary contributions. I lie money is to be used for a memorial to the sons and daughters of Westland who laid down their lives in the eoun- ; try’s cause during the Great War. It would not he seemly for such a purpose to resort to socials and dances and art unions to acquire the necessary funds. So it has been' decided to trust to the generosity of the people to give their contributions freely and liberally during the ten days the collecting cnmj paign will be open. I !\Vestland will be one of the first centres in the Dominion to set about a

public war memorial, and it is well , that tlie task should be well done. Col- : lectors are being appointed throughout j the district and other names will be announced shortly. It is not expected if the campaign is as general as it is being planned, that- there will he any difficulty about raising the amount in the limited time. The public all through jthe war recognised (their duty to the soldiers apd that duty will pot he finished till the fallen are inepioralised by some fitting landmark to recall their deeds apd sacrifices for all time. The cenotaph to lit* erected on Cass Square should prove to be a striking reminder of the Great War and the sacrifices it entailed. For that reason all should feel it a privilege to contribute to a Worthy memorin 1.
