RUSPEIi (Sussex), January;^. When the villagers of Rusper went to their little parish church at evensong i yesterday they saw a wonderful change j in their vicar, the Rev. Edward Sy inott, who was conducting his first service after being honourably acquitted at. a Consistory Court of a change of immorality. 'He no longer was! the target of scandal and abuse. It was a simple choral service attewl:ed by nearly all the old and loyal friends of the vicar/"and by many people who had motored from London and from neighbouring towns. ' 1 When the vicar entered the pulpit he smiled and his friends returned the greeting. He chose d text—“ Love never delighted in any one going wrong”—and reminded them ha j Love’ dominated their souls he woii .cl never Have been called on to face such cruel scandal, baseless charges, and rum as-he had suffered. “The money spent on my trial,” he declared, “would have built 16 cottages for working men, a new church and a new church room.” He reminded them that a year ago his accusers had offered to withdraw the charges against him if' he would leave the parish, but he preferred to face them for his honour was at stake.
