BENZINE SUPPLIES. WELLINGTON, March 3. A report has apparently gained currency ill Christchurch that a large quantity of benzine from supplies that were on order there, ex Waihemo, were being diverted to Auckland. As a result of this rumour the Prime Minis' ter received' telegrams to-day, protesting against any such action being taken. Mr Massey at once made enquiries, and found that a misunderstanding existed, as there had nevep been any intention to divert Christchurch supplies from the Waihemo or any other steamer. APPLE EXPORT. I NELSON, March 3. /A largely attended meeting of orcliardists was held at Tasman to-day to consider what should be done in view of the cancellation by the Fruitgrowers’ Federation of the intended shipment of apples by the Port Caroline. Oreliardists in the Nelson districts had contributed 65|00 cases towards the shipment. By the death of Mr George Vesey Stewart, of Katikati, which occurred to-day at Rotorua, one of the most conspicuous figures in the earlier history of New Zealand disappears. He was 88 years of age.

WAGES BOARD REPORT. DUNEDIN, March 3. , At a meeting of the Hillside Workshops employees ' held to-day, tile following resolutions were carried unanimously : “(1) As the Wages Board enquiry was conducted in public and was open to t-lie Press, we demand that Mr Justice Stringer's report, which has been submitted to the Prime Minister, be made public immediately.” “(2) Seeing that the Prime Minister now has a report from the Wages Board we demand an immediate statement ns to what steps Cabinet proposes to take to improve the pay and conditions of members of the service. We further pledge ourselves to support any action our executive may deem necesnsry to bring about an immediate settlement of our claims.”

A further resolution was passed to the effect that a week was ample for consideration of the report and that a reply should be made within that time.
