LATE LOCALS.

A Sydney correspondent writes: On his return to Sydney, Mr H. ’Verbrugghen, conductor of the New Sout i Wales State Orchestra, found a cablegram from America offering him a five years’ engagement, at 20,000 dollars for a seven months’ season each year. Mr Verbrugghen is waiting to see what the Stqte Government has to say about it. Mr Verbrugghen is a man of unique qualifications, but that rnlary is likely to make the average e ector sit up and talk! At the meeting of the Greymouth Repatriation Committee the Chairman (M.r G. E. Perkins), reported to .nem- - bers that while away he had the pleasure of seeing the officials of a number of Boards throughout the country, rnd had been informed that the Grey'.nauJi district held the record for repayments on advances from the RepacrrUion Board. He had seen the work bt ng done in Auckland, which seemed very satisfactory. The Secretary had shown him over the training college where -pen were training for various trades. "Whilst in Wellington he saw- the Director of Repatriation and had been complimented on the work of the Greymouth Committee on having better repayments than any other part of New Zealand. Both the Christchurch and Auckland Committees were as busy now as twelve months ago, hut in the former place the unemployment list seemed to be lowered.
