The Giving of Memorials. | The chief poipt is that any gift which is to be wrupg out of a reluctant people to gomin'emoratc the sacrifice of those who so divinely gave all, iS*a dishonour to tlie; dead and a source of disgust to those who Jove them. All utilitarian schemes fall under this description. Why have a. memorial to the dead? Such a memorial, if worthily given, glorifies the living human beings, who give it, not those who have received al- I ready so great a® glory that we can bestow nothing on them, except opr hutp- I hie gratitude.
