FIZZLING OUT.
END OF SHIPPING STRIKE. SYDNEY, Feb. 23. The shipping company officials confidently expect the idle vessels will commence to move Wednesday and they are now making preparations to dispatch the vessels at an hour’s notice. The Engineers’ Institute says that anything may happen. There is no certainty that the executive will accept the Shipping Controller’s terms. The executive feels sure that the ships will not move as early as Wednesday. It believes, however, the strike is nearing an end, hut how it will end the executive cannot yet say. The Melbourne executive has granted the request of the Commonwealth State Shiping Line to carry food to Queensland. The engineers, on these State ships, have now resumed. Many other engineers, employed by coastal companies, have now offered to return immediately they are advised. These have been directed to report on Wednesday. A big exodus of steamers is expected at Melbourne on Wednesday.
