DEATH-DRINK.
92 VICTIMS AND 14 MURDER CHARGES. NEW YORK, Dec. 29. Nineteen more deaths (making 92 in all) are reported this morning as the deadly wood-alcohol “whisky” finishes its work among Christmas holidaymakers. Of this number four died in New York City, four more at Newark, across the Hudson, and the remainder in Western Massachusetts, in the Connecticut Valley.
Yesterday 11 arrests were made ig the. Eastern States, nil being charged with , murder or manslaughter according to their suspected share in the manufacture or distribution of tin’s death-drink. Three more men have also been arrested in New York City, one of whom is named Parnnelli ,an olive-oil importer, for whom the police have lieeu searching ever since the doaths began. He is believed to be the head of a gang which manufactured and sold When arrested, he begged that he mioht not he sent to Connecticut, cThey’ll lynch me,” he said, adding that he was an innocent map, Now York police, in conjunction with the Health Department, are now turning their attention to the manufacturers of eau do Cologne and other perfumes. The number of such manufacturers has increased from 50 to more than 1,500 in the last few months.
