“I have to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the l3st inst., and in reply to state that my. Department has no funds available for the purpose of widening and improving the road to Lake Kanieri, and I am afraid there is no likelihood of the Department securing an appropriation of such a magnitude as desired by your Council, as neither the immediate nor prospective potentialities of Lake Kanieri as a national tourist resort warrant, the expenditure mentioned. “I notice, however, that the Public Works Department has an appropriation of £3OO for widening Lake Kanieri road, and I am therefore referring your application for the ctonsidorationi of'theHon. the)Minbter for Public Works.”

From the tenor of the above it is very evident that the ITon. Minister has a very obscure vision of one of the most charming and accessible beauty spots in the Dominion.
