MARINE ENGINEERS’ STRIKE. " ‘ SYDNEY, Feb. 22.
It is unoffically reported that a mass meeting of the engineers agreed to take another ballot to decide as to acceptance of the Shipping Controller’s terms. The Victorian engineers have agreed to give the Executive full powers to arrange a settlement. Despite the engineers’ strike, the steamer Mataram left port with a full cargo' 5 ’ and passengers for Singapore. This move was so well covered that the executive of the Engineers’ Institute were unaware where the engineers were obtained. It is believed the men who went have accepted the terms offered by the Inter-State shipping companies at the beginning of the strike. It is understood that the steamer Montoro will also sail within a few days. <Received This Day at 5.45 a.m.) NEARING THE END. SYDNEY, This Day. The engineers have decided to hand the Executive complete control of the strike. It is unofficially stated the members of the Executive are leaving immediately for Melbourne, where the strike will be declared off, and the Shipping Controller’s offer accepted, the steamers being manned on Wednesday and Thursday.
