;isy Electric Telegraph —Copyright.) INDIAN CURRENCY. BOMBAY, Feb. 2, Tlio report of the Indian change and currency Committee states it is unlikely Indian trade will be permanently injured by the fixing of exchange at a high rate. The Committee recommends that the present rupee remain, unchanged in weight and fineness) that it be placed on a gold basis with a parity of ten rupees to the sovereign. The committee considers if tlie price of silver rises beyond the aforesaid gold parity, Government should even be prepared to buy silver for rupee coinage at a loss, rather than allow the convertability of the note issue to be impaired. The Secretary for India has decided to adopt the recommendation concerning .■old ,parity, but as regards tlio further recommendation that the import and export of gold be freed from Government control, it lias been decided to temporarily retain control over the export of gold, and during tlio transitional period sovereigns will remain the legal tender at the present ratio or fifteen rupees.
