. WELL-KNOWN CRIMINAL CHARGED. WELLINGTON, Jan. 31. The possessor of a notorious criminal record appeared in the dock at the Police Court in the person of Robert Dixon' Warden. This malefactor, a

young mail, who has long since been declared an habitunf criminal, made a sensational escape from Mount Eden Goal, at Auckland, in September last, and eventually succeeded in reaching Christchurch, in a suburb of which he was identified and arrested, after a strenuous tussle, by an alert constable. During the struggle, Warden drew n revolver, but this availed him not at all, and lie was taken to the Central Police Station, whore be was search ed, and was found to be in possession of considerable stolen property.
