MAGISTRATE'S COURT, HOKITIKA
F[U!>A>\ JAN. 2««l. (Before E. C. Lcvycy Esq., S.M.) After the Wardens’ Court sitting was concluded in the afternoon, the Magistrate’s Court was again opened. ALLEGED ASSAULT. The police charged John Tobin, aged 78 years, with assault of a girl of 8} years. Mr Murdoch appeared for the accused, and Sergt. McCarthy prosecuted. His Worship ordered the Court to be cleared during the hearing, which was continued until 5.15 p.m., when the evidence had been completed. The Court then adjourned till next morning, when it was arranged that the Magistrate would visit the scene so ns to the actual position, the Court to resume at 10.15 a.m .
SATURDAY, JAN. 31st. The C<)iiy( resumed at 10.30 a.m., having visited the scene of the alleged assault. Mr Murdoch asked for an adjournment for a fortnight, making an appeal of the necessity of securing the full facts, before the Court; came, to a dqcis-
ion. Sergt. McCarthy offered no objection filiough ho considered no further evidence of value could be obtained. His Worship granted the adjournment asked for. The Court then adjourned,
