BURNS’ ANNIVERSARY
A large and appreciative gathering was held last evening at the Supreme Hall to honour the great Scottish Bard. The proceedings opened with three pipers giving a selection followed with songs composed by the popular author, rendered by Misses Forsyth, Hatch, Perry, Mrs Chesterman, Mr and Mrs J. 18. Ward, Messrs J. Simpson and W. Sliand. Recitations worthy of the occasion by Chief Davidson and J. Cameron, Highland Fling by wee lassies in their pretty costumes. Dancing between the songs and recitations to the music of Messrs Lawn and Gibbons kept the company with life and mettle in their heels. The skirl of the pipes with
(Chieftains McGregor and Moßeath carrying Scotland’s National dish aroused much enthusiasm. ’I he Chief giving the address to the Haggis, followed with ( Burns’ grace soon had the ladies serv- ; ing the taties and chieftain o’ the pudding race. Full justice was shown by the disappearance of the lour haggis . kindly made and donated bv Mrs 3. j Cameron of Arahura. The ladies deserve credit for the management and one and all felt when Auld Lang Syne | was announced that they had spen a i guid Scotch nicht'. |
