'Bryan, in the course of a speech said that the Republican alterations to the Peace Treaty would have to be accepted by the Democrats. The delay in affect ing the ratification, he declared, was an outrage. , Mr BrVati remarked: “I love the Democratic Party too well to permit them to commit the crime of making the Peace Treaty an election issue, and thus causing an additional delay of seventeen months.

The “New York World’s” Berlin 'correspondent interviewed von Bernhardt, who said Kaiserism will ultimately return to - Germany. The Crown Prince has a chance to become Emperor, but the Kaiser cannot return. German public opinion has already become more conservative in attitude. The Army will have something to say in reference to future conditions of Germany. It is sure we are heading towards an important change. \n endeavour is 'being made by many parties to replace Protestant Kaiser ism with a Catholic monarchy, hoping thus to annihilate the influence of Russia. The outcome of all this will (je a narliamentary monarchy such as England and Italy. I regret this, because Ido not believe a parliamentary mouarchy to be to the best advantage of the Fatherland.

A Boston message states the Cedric has wirelessed that she took aboard 271 persons from the Powhatan cabled on Jan. 18th. The Powhatan is now out of danger, and other vessels will tow her in when the sea is calm.

Mr Raymond Foster Under-Secretary of the General League of Nations lias cabled to Mr Drummond hjs resignation, on the ground that United States uncertain position in the League makes his severance neeesary, SENATORS VIEWS. NEW YORK, Jan. 20. Senators Johnston and Reed, in speeches declared that no further compromise in the Treaty slioidd be made by the Senate beyond the acceptance of Mr Lodge’s reservations.
