The Railway Officers’ Institute to-da.v considered the railway superannuation fund, arriving at a decision which will be placed before 'the authorities. The chief proposals agreed to include compulsory retirement at 60 yars, of members who have completed 40 years service. It was also decided to ask for an actuarial investigation of the fund at once, and at regular intervals; also adequate and substantial subsidies based on such investigations, as is done in the easel of other public service funds.

SMALL FIRE ON TE ANAL*. CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 15

A small fire was discovered on the Te Anau shortly before it was timed to depart for Napier and Gisborne. Portion of the cargo was unloaded and a small fire was found in number four hold.
