WESTLAND COUNTY ELECTION
KOKATAHI RIDING. The poll for the election of a member for the Westland County Council to represent the Kokatahi Riding took place yesterday, and resulted in the return of Mr L. H. Morel, of Koiterangi, President of the Westland A- and P. Association. There were three polling booths, but apart from the interest taken in the result in the country where the candidates resided very little general interest was shown. The unofficial figures announced last night gave Mr Morel 1 a majority of six, the totals given out being, L. H. Morel 70 R. Meliarry 64.
The official scrutiny and count took place this forenoon, the following being the figures arrived at : Baoth R. Meliarry H. L. Morel. Hokitika II 23 Kokatahi 38 22 Koiterangi 15 24 64 69 Mr Morel has now been declared duly elected for the remainder of the term of (lie sitting Council, which expires iri November next, when a general election for members will take place throughout the County.
