MOTOR RECORD. AUCKLAND, Jan. 10. The Auckland Motor Cycle Sports Club held a successful meeting on Takapuna racecourse on Saturday. The crowd was treated to some thrills by Coleman, the Palmerston North crack, who established a world’s record on the grass in the Great Northern Championship, covering a distance of 15 miles 150 yards in 13 minutes dead. Coleman from a flying start, also broke the mile record on the grass, covering the distance in 49 3-'ssccs.

ESCAPE FROM GAOL. AUCKLAND, Jan. 11. William Frederick Murray, alias Jackson who was serving sentence for thoft, escaped from Mt Eden Gaol on Saturday afternoon, presumably by scaling the wall. Murray entered a house, where he purloined a suit of civilian clothes leaving his attire in exchange. Ho has not been seen since. Murray had been declared an habitual criminal.

Cabinet has not yet gone into the subject here, but Govern, ment has promised to give the project every assistance possible. Such an exhibition would be a good thing. It was to he hoped that matters industrial would he sufficiently settled down by then to ensure the success of the project. ... ... .....
