WESTLAND RACING CLUB

COMMITEE MEETING.

Tlie Committee of the above Club met at the Club room last night, Mr IV. E. Williams occupying the chair. The Chairman congratulated the Club on the general jsuccess of the meeting held at Christmas time. The Treasurer’s statement in connection with the late meeting during Christmas week, showed the receipts to be £3,589 and the expenses £2,935. The meeting therefore, showed a surplus of £654. The total of the stakes (including two cups) was £ISOO, and the amount paid in Government taxation £956 11s 2d. The Treasurer recommended that £SOO be paid off the debenture debt, by the redemption of fifty £lO debentures ■ which had'anatured.

The report was receievd as very satisfactory. The Treasurer’s statement was adopted, and the accounts involved passed for payment. The recommendation- to pay £SOO off the debenture debt was approved, members expressing pleasure that this reduction was possible.

On the motion of the Chairman a very hearty vote of thanks was passed to Miss Jones and the ladies who had assisted with the catering. Mr Williams mentioned that the valuable assistance was greatly appreciated. The very satisfactory condition of the course and appointments was favourably commented upon and it was resolved to vote a bonus of five guineas to the caretaker.

It was resolved to increase the salary of thfc Secretary, commendatory remarks being passed on the manner in which the affairs of the Club were being conducted. An alteration’ to the birdcage to givo more room to the public passing in front of same was approved and matters regarding a training track were determined upon. Other minor matters were also agreed to regarding small improvements.

EASTER PROGRAMME. The stakes for the Autumn meeting to be held on the Hokitika racecourse on Easter Wednesday April 7th were fixed at £6OO, apportioned as follows: Trial Handicap of 50 sovs, 6) furlongs. " Railway Handicap of 70 sovs, o| furlongs. Express Trot Handicap (Saddle) of 65 sovs, 1 mile. .Autumn Handicap of 130 sovs, 1J mile. Presidents Handicap of 70 sovs, 5 furlongs. Dominion Trot- Handicap (harness) of 70 6ovs, 1) miles. High Weight Handicap of 80 sovs. 7 furlongs. Electric Trot Handicap (saddle) of 65 sovs, 1)- miles The above shows an increase of £IOO in stakes over the previous autumn programme. Nominations were fixed to close on March 26; handicaps to fie declared on Easter Monday, and acceptances cicse on Easter Tuesday night at 10 o'clock.

Tlie circuit of racing dates at Easter time will include meetings at Ivuniara, Hokitika, Greyniouth, and Reefton, in that order,
