CALEDONIAN SPORTS.
A HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL GATHERING. The Caledonian Sports on Cass Spun re yesterday proved highly successful. There was a large attendance, including many visitors from the north and south. The Town Band and the Pipe Band were present during the afternoon, and enlivened the proceedings with their music.
The gathering proved a very enjoyable one, but soon after four o’clock there was a rain shower, which gradually increased, and caused an adjournment of the dancing items to the Princess Theatre. The various officials were in evidence carrying out their duties, and the events were run off promptly. The judges of the dancing and music, Messrs McGillveray and J. Allen, of Christchurch, gave general satisfaction in their awards. The following are the results of the principal events:— Highland Fling, adults.—W. H. Kilgour (Temuka) 1, A. Lake (Wellington) 2, G. SCOTTISH CONCERT. The Princess Theatre held a very large holiday audience last evening, when the Scottish Concert took place. The performers met with a very flattering reception, and encores were numerous. The programme was as follows: Combined tableau and selection, Pipe Band; song “Annie Laurie,” Mr W. Shand; song “Angus Macdonald,” Miss E. Perry; solo, violin, “Selected” Mr W. Leitch (Blackball); song “Hundred Pipers,” Mr Fraser; sword dance, M iss R. Hands; musical monologue, Mr W. A. Berry; song “My Ain Folk,” Miss M. Jones; Reel of Tulloeh, -Messrs Boyd, Misses Hands and Needham. Part ll.—Song “Battle of Stirling,” Miss J. Davidson; Irish Jig, Miss M. Needham and Mr A.
