NEW YORK, December 21. .The liner Manchuria has sailed for Hamburg being the first liner to leave an American port for Germany in the regular passenger service. PRINCE OF WALES. LONDON, December 23. Although the Prince of Wales’ itinerary has not yet been arranged, the 'Australian Press Association learns he will proceed direct to Australia and then visit New Zealand and possibly South Africa when returning. It is officially announced the Prince twill visit India next winter. LINEN INDUSTRY. LONDON, December 20Efforts are' being made to introduce flaxgrowing for the linen industry in the south of Ireland. A big factory is being constructed in Cork, which has contracted with farmers throughout the country to grow flax. (Free seed is being distributed. __
DISASTROUS FIRE. TEN DEATHS'. (Received This Day at 8 a.m.) LONDON, December 24. Another disastrous fire occurred in the office building of Newcastle, in the centre of the city. A large number of employees Including many girl clerks were trapped, and compelled to jump from a height of ninety feet into sheets held in the roadway. Several missed the sheets and others were burned with fntal results. A total of ten deaths occurred. A SOLDIER CANDIDATE. NEW YORK, Dec. 24. Major-General Wood is announced as a Presidential candidate. A LUCKY MAN. MADRID, Dec. 23. The Manager of a branch of an English bank at Madrid has won first prize in a Spanish National lottery worth £375,000 sterling.
